The Underdog
What is an underdog? When I hear that word what comes to mind is that superhero dog movie or cartoon I only heard about. What underdog really means is competitors having small chances of winning. In Boots Riley's Underdog poem, the ones he refers as "they" are the higher class people or the government. Boots Riley even in his poem said, "They'd tear this motherfucker up if they really loved you". He pretty much points out how the life of an underdog is tough when society doesn't help you when you in need of help. The ones that Boots Riley refers as the "underdog" are the lower class people. They're the ones who work long hours for very little pay. Like "Bills, they piled up on the coffee table like they're decorations". People with low pay jobs don't have enough to pay the bills and the higher class won't even help. Some work so hard that, "I raise this glass for the ones who die meaningless". Parents work so hard to support their families just to give them as much as they can and that's not fair. Boots Riley says he, "got love for the Underdog" because he knows the lower class are hard workers and he wants everyone to understand that through his poems.
